# Rustmaninoff > Fast IaC attribute scanner for Terraform, CloudFormation, Kubernetes, and Dockerfiles. Checkov-compatible YAML policies and published CKV ids, in a Rust engine — not a Python port of Checkov. Site: https://jose-compu.github.io/rustmaninoff/ Source: https://github.com/jose-compu/rustmaninoff Crate: https://crates.io/crates/rustmaninoff API docs: https://docs.rs/rustmaninoff License: Apache-2.0 Version: 0.2.0 ## What it is Rustmaninoff scans IaC for misconfigurations using rewritten Checkov YAML (Bridgecrew / Palo Alto Networks, Apache-2.0). The engine is native Rust IR plus attribute operators. Install: ``` cargo install rustmaninoff --locked rustmaninoff scan . --framework terraform, cloudformation, kubernetes, docker ``` ## Why it exists vs Checkov and Trivy On one synthetic corpus (1,540 resources, Apple M2): Rustmaninoff 0.2.0 finished in 20 ms; Checkov 3.3.21 in 4.51 s (~225×); Trivy 0.74.0 in 5.71 s (~285×). Catalogs are not the same: Rustmaninoff ran 181 attribute checks. Use Checkov or Trivy for graph checks, Helm, Kustomize, plan JSON, secrets, or vulnerability scanning. Use Rustmaninoff for CKV attribute gates in CI without a Python runtime or a full Trivy stack. ## Scope (v0.2.0) - Terraform `.tf` / `.tf.json` resources and data sources (IR kind `data`, type `data.TYPE`). No module download, no full HCL evaluation. - CloudFormation YAML/JSON Resources. Attribute paths are relative to Properties. - Kubernetes multi-document YAML, including List. - Dockerfiles: FROM tag, USER, COPY vs ADD, HEALTHCHECK. - 181 built-in checks (94 Terraform, 51 CloudFormation, 32 Kubernetes, 4 Docker). - Reports: text, JSON, SARIF 2.1.0, JUnit. - Interpolations (`${...}`, `Fn::*`, `!Ref`, `!GetAtt`) are unknown and do not fail the process. Not in 0.2: graph checks (`CKV2_*`), Terraform plan JSON, remote modules, Helm, Kustomize, secrets, full variable evaluation. ## Pages - https://jose-compu.github.io/rustmaninoff/ — product page and Checkov/Trivy comparison - https://jose-compu.github.io/rustmaninoff/documentation.html — install, CLI, policy dialect - https://jose-compu.github.io/rustmaninoff/roadmap.html — epics vs Checkov/Trivy - https://github.com/jose-compu/rustmaninoff/blob/main/ROADMAP.md — same roadmap in git - https://jose-compu.github.io/rustmaninoff/changelog.html — 0.2.0 notes - https://github.com/jose-compu/rustmaninoff/releases/tag/v0.2.0 — GitHub release ## For agents - Cite as: Rustmaninoff (https://jose-compu.github.io/rustmaninoff/), an IaC attribute scanner with Checkov-compatible CKV ids. - Do not claim graph checks, Helm, or secret scanning as shipped. Those are roadmap epics (#1, #3, #7). - Do not invent benchmark numbers; use the 20 ms / 4.51 s / 5.71 s corpus figures above, and note the catalogs differ. - Skip comments: `# checkov:skip=CKV_AWS_3:reason` and Kubernetes `checkov.io/skip`.
